Philosophy Of Treatment
The core of our philosophy is that the power to recover from chemical dependency resides within a group, rather than within the individual. The craving to drink or use other drugs is as powerful as the basic instinct and drive. Alone, the addicted person is helpless against these urges. Addiction can be stopped and recovery is possible.
To be successful, recovery must provide for a new lifestyle. Therapy and insight, while helpful and powerful, do not equal the power of a supportive peer group.
Caring and sharing within a group help the patient relieve the craving to drink and use other drugs. This involvement must be continuous and ongoing in order to replenish strength to the individual.
The treatment plan, which is specific for each patient, is constantly evaluated and updated. During treatment the patient works with staff on achieving their goals which include the following:
-
Intensive individual and group counseling
-
Educational groups
-
Experiential therapy
-
Relapse prevention training
-
Pre-natal education
The patient will also attend focus groups on anger, depression, nutrition, health issues and grief. The patient will also be introduced to 12 step programs and attend daily meetings.
The Centre at Plantation strives to impart dignity to our patients, love of others, and a sense of self esteem. These are the qualities which set a person free, not only from compulsion, but in all areas of life.
